During the Anglo-Zulu wars N/5 Battery Royal Field Artillery, consisting of Six 7pr Rifled Muzzle Loading (RML) cannon and Two 9pr rocket troughs, were deployed at Isandlwana.

On 22nd January 1879 the Zulus over-ran the camp at Isandlwana.

There were four men from N/5 Battery at Rorke’s Drift and helped to defend it against the Zulu attack there.

These men were: Bombardier Lewis, Thomas 458: Gunner Evans, Abraham 1643: Gunner Cantwell, John 2076, was awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal and Gunner Howard, Arthur 2077.
